“They say I have changed a lot. I say a lot changed me.”
Twenty years ago I was 21 and felt that I had the world at my fingertips. I felt that whatever I did or did not accomplish would have been a direct result of my efforts (or lack thereof). Twenty years later, I realize that a lot of things can happen to you on this journey called life that can shape your very existence. Going through a divorce in my early 30’s coupled with being a parent of a special needs child has taught me the hard way that life will throw so many monkey wrenches in the plan you had for your life that you will find yourself feeling a variety of feelings. “I did not sign up for this”, “This is not fair”, and “I did nothing to deserve this” are just a few of the feelings we feel when life really lets us have it.
But all of these experiences made you into the person that you are today. Some experiences make you bitter, some make you grateful, some even make you realize that you are not living life to the fullest. Life has made you into the person that you are today and the best thing you can do is own it. But all is not lost. If you are not happy with the person you are today, be honest with yourself and start to take steps to get you to where you want to be. It is never too late to become the person you want to be.
